Scams continue to surface and we must be able to help each other identify what is true, and what is not true, especially about our service animals. This card below is a scam.

I AM EXEMPT FROM ANY ORDINANCE REQUIRING FACE MASK USAGE IN PUBLIC. Wearing a face mask posses a mental and/or physical risk to me. Under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), I am not required to disclose my condition to you. Department of Justice ADA Violation reporting number: (800) 514-0301. If found in violation of the ADA, you could face steep penalties. Organizations and businesses can be fined up to $75,000 for your first violation and $150,000 for any subsequent violations. DENYING ACCESS TO YOUR BUSINESS/ORGANIZATION WILL ALSO BE REPORTED TO FTBA FOR FURTHER ACTIONS.
The image also contains the DOJ seal and the logo of the fake organization, FTBA which is “Freedom to Breathe Agency”.
Also refusal to wear a face covering and being told you cannot enter the building falls under this portion of the ADA:
(a) This part does not require a public accommodation to permit an individual to participate in or benefit from the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages and accommodations of that public accommodation when that individual poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
(b) In determining whether an individual poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others, a public accommodation must make an individualized assessment, based on reasonable judgment that relies on current medical knowledge or on the best available objective evidence, to ascertain: The nature, duration, and severity of the risk; the probability that the potential injury will actually occur; and whether reasonable modifications of policies, practices, or procedures or the provision of auxiliary aids or services will mitigate the risk.
If for some reason you cannot wear a mask due to whatever medical condition that you might have, please use other accommodation tools. If a mask doesn’t work try a face shield. If neither of those work use other accommodations such as curbside pick up or delivery services.
