Please Keep Our Streets, Gutters, Storm Drains, & Bay Clean

With many of us spending more time at home, an increase in household waste is understandable. Efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle are more important than ever. Actions that prevent litter are imperative.

Carts that are overloaded or not kept closed are vulnerable to being knocked over by the wind and hungry animals. Trash in the street ends up in the gutters, our storm drain system, and the San Francisco Bay!

What can you do to prevent litter pollution?

**Reduce waste by purchasing items that are durable, reusable, and recyclable
**Sort waste items into the appropriate cart
**Use drop-off and take-back recycling programs (visit recyclestuff.org)
**Keep cart lids closed
**Store carts in an enclosed area on non-service days
**Subscribe to an appropriate level of garbage service
**Arrange for special garbage or recycling collection when needed
**Contact us for assistance (by phone at 650.589.4020 and by email to info@ssfscavenger.com)

ATTENTION FOOD SERVICE ESTABLISHMENTS WHERE PATRONS BUS THEIR OWN TABLES–

Not sure how many of you we are lucky enough to have open, but if you are, please be sure to provide front-of-house collection bins for organic waste. California Assembly Bill 827 made this mandatory on July 1st! Contact us if you need assistance (650.589.4020 or info@ssfscavenger.com).

A New California Law Requires Restaurants to Provide Food-waste Bins to Customers

California continues trekking towards its goal of diverting 75 percent of solid waste from landfills by 2020, this time tackling the problem of post-consumer food waste in the front of house.

Come next year, restaurants in California will be required to provide a separate bin for customers to throw uneaten food scraps, soiled paper, and other “organic waste,” according to a post from Nation’s Restaurant News. The new law, called AB 827, applies only to limited-service restaurants — that is, restaurants where customers order and pay at the counter and typically bus their own tables after eating.

KNOW WHERE IT GOES! RECYCLE TIPS

Products like these are found on non-refrigerated shelves in the market. When empty, please place in the GARBAGE. Aseptic packaging cannot be recycled curbside– even if the packaging states that it can. Consider purchasing products packaged in glass, aluminum, or metal instead. Also, buy in bulk, not single servings
