South San Francisco, CA March 2, 2021 Submitted by County of San Mateo
This workshop, instructed by local gardening and composting expert Najiha Al Asmar, will cover the basics of backyard hot pile composting via lecture and live demonstrations. Jesús Jimenez will provide translation into Spanish. By attending this workshop, San Mateo County residents qualify for a composting bin and discounted supplies.
Please note that backyard composting (also known as “hot pile” composting) is a special style of composting that can only be done outdoors and requires occasional turning. In this style of composting, microorganisms are the primary decomposers.
If you don’t have access to a backyard, but would still like to compost, you’re in luck! Najiha will also cover how to join the Fresh Approach Community Compost Hub, a great option to get involved in composting at a community level.
**This will be a bilingual workshop, with separate audio feeds for English and Spanish speakers.**
