Attention bay area cooks, chefs, and food bloggers it’s time to enter the world food championships Taste of America recipe contest!!

 

Everything South City Eats and Cooks invites residents of South City to join my friends at South San Francisco Public Library virtually for an upcoming author talk: Spicebox Kitchen with Dr. Linda Shiue blogger and author of https://spiceboxtravels.com/

 

She also founded thrive kitchen pop-up cooking school at both San Francisco and Daly City locations and before covid, I attended her Daly City location with her star chef on her thrive culinary team chef Scott Sasch a well-known culinary instructor in Berkeley and was a restaurant chef at the time. She is the author of Spice Box Kitchen and actually entered into the Instagram raffle and I was chosen as a winner of the raffle and it was a rewarding experience.

 

Mark your calendars for Saturday April 17 th at 1pm – 2pm via zoom and I tested 2 of her spiced approve recipes even Dr Oz would also approve too!

Spiced Granola adapted from Spicebox Kitchen


3 cups rolled oats
2 cups raw pepitas
1 cup cranberries dried
¾ cup Maple syrup
½ cup olive oil
1 tsp salt
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 Tbl ground ginger

½ cup black sesame seeds (Amazon has it)
Preheat oven to 300 degrees line roasting pan with parchment paper
In a bowl stir together oats, peppers, cranberries, Maple syrup, olive oil, salt ,cinnamon and ginger until
well combined then transfer to a pan in a thin Even layer
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes stirring every 10 minutes and rotate pans halfway remove from pan when
oats are golden brown
While granola is still hot stir in black sesame seeds adjust salt to taste.
Allow to cool completely before storing in a airtight container for up to 1 month

 

Hawaiian style tomato poke


6 Roma tomatoes seeded and cut into ¼ inch dice
Pinch of salt
2 tbl toasted sesame oil
2 scallions thinly sliced
Garnish furitake
Place dice tomatoes in a bowl
Sprinkle with salt drizzle with sesame oil and toss to coat . Adjust sesame oil to taste stir in scallions

transfer to a serving bowl or plate
Sprinkle with desired amount of furitake seasoning this should be Sprinkled on top as a garnish eat on its
own or serve with steamed rice
