South San Francisco, CA April 12, 2021 by Chef Ava Marie
There is a GREAT upcoming author talk with the ‘The Zero Waste‘ Chef Anna Marie Bonneanu on Wedenday April 21st via zoom from 7-8pm by the San Mateo County Libraries – I highly recommend our chef’s out there check this out! CLICK HERE to learn more and to register!
Anne Marie blogs at The Zero-Waste Chef, and has been featured in Buzzfeed, Treehugger, Mashable and other publications. In addition to writing her blog, Anne Marie teaches fermentation and sourdough bread baking classes in Northern California.
Also, my good friend Anna Ng of Leah’s Pantry has another line up of food waste cooking class workshops with Leah’s Pantry
My experience with Leah’s Pantry was an informative experience in-person event before COVID and two things I’ve learned:
One- the freezer is my friend for my favorite appetizer and cookie recipes and my top tip flash freeze for 1 hour on sheet pan then place things like wontons or jalapeño poppers into plastic bags for later use.
Two: I’ve learned is to use the pantry food items a year past the expiration date, with expectation of meat and dairy. If expo date says 11/2020 it’d still good until 11/2021 for at least a year to be safe. So, food waste is an concern these days -we can do better!
So Leah’s Pantry has upcoming workshops on June 8th, 15th and 22nd at 4-5pm and you get vouchers for attending to buy extra produce at the Farmer’s Markets. CLICK HERE for more information and to register!
In each class, we’ll offer a recipe demo and cover different topics:
June 8 – Healthy Eating and Zero Waste Cooking
June 15 – Reading Nutrition Facts and Food Code Dates
June 22 – Storing Your Food Properly and Composting
Please only register if you’re positive you can attend. Participation is limited to the first 25 people who register.
There’s no recipe this week but I wanted to offer tips on food waste and what we all can do as a nation.
We will have more recipes in next week article but please don’t forget to check out my Facebook page and follow me on Instagram at @chefavamarie ok and I still write a blog. {all that info is in my bio below!}
So, let’s all do one thing to save a planet.
Happy Earth Day!
