Eligibility
If your household is interested in the program, you will need to qualify by:
1. Not have sufficient access to laptops or the internet at home
2. Have a household income below the following:

Who is eligible for a free laptop and/or internet access?
The City has received funding through the federal CDBG program, which has certain restrictions based on income and location. Residents who earn 50% of Area Median Income are eligible for a laptop or internet access. To qualify, residents must provide:
1. A photo ID with a South San Francisco address and
2. Proof of Income, which requires one of the following:
- a copy of tax returns
- bank statements
- paystubs, or
- proof of current enrollment in Public Assistance Programs.

What is the application period?
The application period opens on Wednesday, April 21st, 8:00 a.m., and closes when all laptops and internet accesses are claimed.
When do I get my free laptop and/or internet access?
The City of SSF will contact you, through your preferred contact means, for your collection day and time. Bring your photo ID that was used for your application for pick-up.
If you are receiving free internet access, please note that this will require internet installation at your residence through a third party paid for by the City of South San Francisco, Wave Broadband. For more information about Wave Broadband, please click here.

Background
The City received $570,000 in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). City elected officials and staff have identified bridging the digital divide in underserved neighborhoods as a priority for the City. One program the City has developed is to provide free refurbished laptops and provide internet access (for one (1) year) to those in need. Over the next few months, the City will be giving away 300 laptops and providing internet access to qualifying households.
