Applications are now open for young adults in San Mateo County interested in joining the nationally-renowned Emergency Medical Services Corps Program’s Fall 2021 Co-ed cohort beginning in July/August 2021.

The EMS Corps is a 5-month full-time FREE training program that provides youth development, job coaching, and mentorship services to support diverse members of the community, including underrepresented groups and people with education and employment barriers, to become Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). The program is renowned for its transformational impact and feedback from local participants is very positive.
Applications are due June 30, 2021, at 11:59 pm PST, however, they are accepted on a rolling basis and we encourage interested applicants to apply ASAP due to the popularity of this program.

We empower young adults of color to become leaders in their communities.
The EMS Corps is a highly selective, rigorous academy that trains aspiring emergency medical professionals who are from the community and ready to serve. It is a paid (stipend) program whose mission is to increase the number of underrepresented workers in emergency medical services through youth development, mentorship, and job training.

Cohort 19 will be co-ed.

What kind of training will I receive?
Students will receive physical/functional training (cardio, weight lifting, etc). They will also receive non-clinical case management from Deyantae Newson (who is also the boot camp instructor) and Martha Lemus. They will work on career development and providing after care. In addition, they will provide additional resources.

What if I fail the final exam? What I still be able to graduate the program?
No, you have to pass the final exam to graduate the program.

The Emergency Medical Services Corps program of Alameda County is partnering with San Mateo County Health to provide a 5-month full-time training program with supportive youth development services to encourage diverse members of the community, including underrepresented groups, people with barriers to employment, and people with lived experience similar to underserved populations in San Mateo County, to become an Emergency Medical Technician. The academy also provides supportive services such as mentorship and job performance coaching to address specific socio-economic barriers to training and employment experienced by underserved communities.
Participants who successfully complete the program will gain access to entry-level positions in the health care and emergency medical services fields that can grow into thriving careers. Program participants will receive a $5,000 student grant to complete the training. Course Timeline:
EMS Corps is a rigorous 5-month program. The schedule is still being determined but is likely to run from August 2021 – December 2021. We will confirm this as soon as the timeline is finalized.
