Growing opposition and media attention are putting SB 9 and SB 10 in the crosshairs. We’re proud to have, as our newest allies, the San Fernando City Council, respected Latino officials who oppose SB 9 and SB 10.
SB 9 and SB 10, if passed by State legislators in August, could destroy this charming working-class town of 10,000 people per square mile. San Fernando is 90% Latino and 56% homeowners. That’s above the statewide average.
San Fernando is a very cool place. Bad ideas like SB 9 and SB 10, will backfire in this community that revived its downtown through good planning, and strengthened its neighborhoods through strong homeownership.
SB 9 and SB 10 do the opposite. They invite developers, Airbnb, Blackstone and other speculators to jump into home-buying, outbidding families and destroying local planning in favor of random density without infrastructure.
In real time on Saturday, July 24, we’ll roll up our sleeves to do the following:
- Each participant will, via their turned on zoom camera, be OK’d for this real-time workshop. We ask for patience for this special workshop day.
- Working together, each participant will post a specific message on Nextdoor that opposes SB 9 and SB 10 — and asks that others share that warning across Nextdoor.
- We will provide suggested language that does not break any Nextdoor politicking rules.
Once the Nextdoor posts are all up and live, we’ll move on to “Fill in the Blanks.”
- We will work from a shared list of priority Assembly Districts where legislators still needs to hear from opponents of SB 9 and SB 10.
- Then we’ll all mute. We’ll then all call the Assembly offices in “Fill in the Blanks”.
- We’ll provide suggested language: that SB 9 and SB 10 density endangers local planning, single-family areas, sensitive communities, affordable housing and all fire zones.
We’ll wrap up this special Saturday workshop with a request to spread the word that:
Livable California is seeking a handful of significant donors to cover modest advertising in Fill in the Blanks districts, where residents and elected leaders don’t know about SB 9 or SB 10.
