Larger Week Long Strike Expected at Kaiser November 15-22nd

South San Francisco, CA  November 13, 2021

The Stationary Engineers, Local 39, have been on strike at Kaiser in South San Francisco coming up on nine weeks now and other unions have joined their efforts on the picket line in the past. However, Kaiser has announced an expected strike by the Pharmacy Guild, which represents Kaiser pharmacists, from November 15 through November 22nd. Kaiser has also announced there might be interruptions in other services per the letter below. Please do read it and take care of your medical concerns in advance, if possible.

Shane Mortensen, the District Representative Stationary Engineers, Local 39, has sent out a letter to the Good People of Kaiser which we are also sharing below.

In addition, Senator Bernie Sanders, along with seven other Senators, have sent a letter to Kaiser expressing their support.

On September 30th, San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President, David Canepa, stood in solidarity with the Local 39 strikers in front of Kaiser on El Camino Real.

SEI-UHW also joined their Union 39 striking brothers and sisters on the picket line Friday, October 22nd.

Locally, Kaiser is one of our area’s largest employers, per their count over 1,700 in our South City location alone. Many of our neighbors work there or at one of their other facilities in neighboring San Bruno and Daly City. This strike is impacting many of them, including ESC photographer Roger Cain. We stand in support of a fair contract being established soon.

SMC Supervisor President David Canepa expresses his support for Local 39 and those on the picket line, as he speaks with ESC photographer, Roger Cain, who is a member of local 39.
