On her Twitter feed today, Representative Jackie Speier announced she will not be seeking re-election to Congress in 2022, citing it is time she comes home, to be more than a weekend wife, mother, and friend.
Representative Speier reflected back to 43 years ago this week when she was under ambush in Guyana, suffering from five bullet wounds, and how she made the decision if she survived, she would dedicate her life to public service. She has done that for the past four decades.
Representative Speier was raised in South San Francisco and has represented the County of San Mateo in many different capacities through the years. While she has another year yet to serve our District, we wish her the very best in her retirement.
