In 2017, Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of South San Francisco, began construction on the South San Francisco Station Improvement Project.
With funding from the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, City of South San Francisco, and Federal Transit Administration, the $96.6 million project built a fully-accessible station with a center-boarding platform, allowing riders to seamlessly move between platforms.
The modernized station provides updated amenities, improves Caltrain efficiency, and lays the foundation for Caltrain electrification that will run faster, cleaner, and quieter service.
A new pedestrian and bicycle underpass enhances east-west connection; while the overall design integrates the station into the fabric of Downtown South San Francisco to better serve the community.
When is the public dedication ceremony for the new police station?? Saw on TV a private one for the media. What about the public did I miss that one?
Hi Russ, the Communications Director for the City has said “the announcement about the ribbon cutting was advertised in the citywide newsletter that was published before Thanksgiving. Leslie said that if anyone wants to speak to her for more information, they’re welcome to call her at 650-877-8500”
However, this explanation does not satisfy the general public because the City does so much outreach to ensure people are notified about other lesser events. They believe the new SSFPD station dedication should have been announced on multiple platforms (City, Police FB pages, Nextdoor, emails).
