SSFPD Media Release: Automobile vs Pedestrian Fatality

South San Francisco, CA   January 27, 2022  Submitted by SSFPD

On 1-27-2022, at 6:25 AM, the South San Francisco Police Department responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian collision report at the intersection of E. Grand Ave and Forbes Blvd. The South San Francisco Fire Department transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The pedestrian’s identity is being withheld, pending contact with his next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing, but early investigative steps indicate the motorist was traveling westbound on E. Grand Ave approaching a stale green light at the intersection of Forbes Blvd. Witness accounts were that the pedestrian was walking on the east side of the intersection, crossing E. Grand Ave from the south curb to the north curb. The pedestrian may have been crossing outside the crosswalk and against a red light during darkness. As the motorist approached the intersection, his vehicle struck the pedestrian.

The motorist immediately pulled over to render aid to the pedestrian. At this time, impairment is not suspected to be a factor. The collision is under investigation, and anyone who may have information is asked to contact Corporal Pappas at the South San Francisco Police Department, 650-877-8900.
