Motorcycle Officers throughout San Mateo County participate in the Saturated Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), a collaboration of police agencies within San Mateo County. Once a month, the traffic officers deploy into selected cities to conduct enforcement in areas identified as problematic for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and school zones.
On 5/17/22, at approximately 2:25 PM, a South San Francisco motorcycle officer was conducting traffic enforcement at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Bay Road in the City of Redwood City. All approaches at the intersection require motorists to stop for the posted stop signs before entering the intersection.
The motorcycle officer entered the intersection westbound on Fifth Avenue with its emergency lights, and siren turned on. While entering the intersection, a motorist traveling southbound on Bay Road entered the intersection without complying with the posted stop sign and struck the motorcycle officer broadside.
The motorist immediately stopped and was cooperative with the Redwood City Police Department’s investigation. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor. Both involved drivers were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with minor/moderate injuries.
May the Lord keep this brave officer in His loving care. May the officer have pain-free and quick recovery. In Jesus’ name we pray.
