The Consumer Price Index increased 8.5 percent for the year ended March 2022, following a rise of 7.9 percent from February 2021 to February 2022. The 8.5-percent increase in March was the largest 12-month advance since December 1981.
Milk, one of our most basic must haves, has gone up 14.7% year-on-year for all urban consumers in April, up from 13.3% in March, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, causing some to do without.
From March 2021 to March 2022, consumer prices for energy increased 32.0 percent. Prices increased for fuel oil (70.1 percent), gasoline (48.0 percent), electricity (11.1 percent), and natural gas (21.6 percent) over this period. These huge increases in energy serve to push higher every other item on the market.
