UPDATE August 9, 2022 from Garden Chapel Funeral Directors;
Rich was the only son of Innocente and Pierina Irli. He was the first of his family to be born in the United States, and was very proud of his Italian heritage (Lonate Pozzolo, Italy).
He was blessed with his wife Barbara who he loved and adored. They had no children, however, his nephew Doug was like a son and his niece Christine was like a daughter. He also has a niece by marriage who was like a daughter, Donna Parks and two nephews by marriage, Brian Wright and Kent Wright. His sister Rose as well as his niece Mary-Jeanne Esquivel preceded him in death.
Rich spent his entire life in So. SF (having the same telephone number all his life). After graduating from South San Francisco High School, Class of 1958 he continued his education at the University of San Francisco. His first job was with Liberty Market delivering groceries. From there he spent a short while working at Bethlehem Steel. Following that he spent 36 years working for the City of South San Francisco in various capacities, retiring as a Public Works Supervisor.
He was very active in the community belonging to the YMI#32, Kiwanis, OPUS, as their Secretary, IIGruppo Lonatese, So.SF Historical Society, Peninsula Italian American Social Club and the Italian American Citizen Club. He held a position with the South San Francisco Credit Union for several years and was an Advisor on the Colma Creek Advisory Board.
Services will be held at Unity Lutheran Church, 609 Southwood Dr. So.SF on August 19, 2022 at 1PM. Please note that masks are required at the church.
