Cal Water Making Operational Changes During Statewide Flex Alert

South San Francisco, Ca  September 1, 2022 Submitted by Emily Hernandez, CWS

As temperatures and energy demand rise statewide, California Water Service is doing our part to help reduce energy use and strain on the power grid, and we urge our customers and community to do the same.

To support CAISO’s Flex Alert, we are cutting grid power during peak hours and instead utilizing generators at key stations to operate our water systems. Not only will the generators help reduce the energy we pull from the grid, they will put us in a good position to keep your water flowing in the event there are power outages in the coming days. Neighbors close to these stations may hear noise from the generator while it is in use. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.

During this time, we ask customers to be mindful of your water use. Supplying water takes a great deal of energy, so every drop of water conserved saves energy. Please observe drought requirements in place, especially those that limit outdoor watering to between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.

We will continue to monitor the water system closely to ensure that we can do our part to respond to the energy emergency while still providing a reliable supply of safe, clean water to you.
