South San Francisco, CA November 11, 2022
Lilas Yvonne Vick, matriarch of her family, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on October 22, 2022, at her home in South San Francisco. Yvonne was born to Henry and Thelma Swindler in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She is survived by her brother Jack Swindler. Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband John Vick, a lifelong San Francisco firefighter and her brothers Bob and Bill Swindler.
John and Yvonne were blessed with six daughters: Lisa, Valerie (Chris Nichols), Leslie (Robert Monaghan), Monica (Frank Verducci Jr.), Etienne (Michael Hernandez), Bronwyn (John Jackson), and 15 grandchildren, Jonathan, Brianne, Matthew, Natalie, Elizabeth, Caitlin, Colleen, Sean, Frank, Andrew, Luc, Gabrielle, Victoria, Emily, and Joseph and 5 great-grandchildren: Luka, Nikola, Evelyn, Olivia and Paige.
Yvonne was a woman of uncommon strength and courage. She instilled in her daughters a deep love of God, family, and an incredible work ethic. She cared for both her parents, her in-laws, and her husband in their end- of-life care. Yvonne’s passions were many: reading, decorating, sewing, traveling and cooking. Nothing brought her greater joy than to cook, nourish, and surround herself with her boisterous loving family and friends. Yvonne lived by her Catholic values. She volunteered at St. Veronica’s Church as a Eucharistic minister, lector, wedding and funeral coordinator. She always helped those in need, truly a life well lived.
Yvonne’s generous spirit, kindness, beauty, and strength will be missed by her loving family, friends, and all those whose hearts and souls she touched.
A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at St. Veronica’s Church, 434 Alida Way in South San Francisco on November 11, 2022, at 10:30am. She will be laid to rest with her husband John at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
She was a very wonderful woman, she will be missed. My condolences to her family.
