SSFPD Media Release: Residential Burglary Arrest

South San Francisco, CA  July 19 2023

On Saturday, July 15th, 2023 at approximately 5:39PM, officers responded to a residence located on the 500 block of Lassen Street in South San Francisco on the report of a residential burglary, where the male suspect was still inside of the residence.

The suspect, a (43-year-old unemployed male), identified as Levi Smith of Forestville, barricaded himself inside of the residence with a knife and refused to obey officers’ commands to exit the residence. Officers used numerous de-escalation tactics for several hours, to include the use of Crisis Negotiators, in attempts to bring Smith into custody. After several hours, Smith surrendered and was safely taken into custody with no reported injuries to anyone involved. He was later booked into the San Mateo County Jail on the following charges: 460(a) PC- 1st Degree Burglary, 69(a) PC- Obstruct/Resist Officers, 417(a)(1) PC- Exhibit Deadly Weapon, 148(a)(1) PC- Obstruct/Resist Officers, and 148.9(a) PC- False Identification to Officers.
