South San Francisco, CA November 25, 2023 by SMC Sheriff’s Office
It is with a heavy heart that we inform the San Mateo County Community that former Sheriff and County Supervisor Don Horsley passed away this morning.
Sheriff Horsley started his career with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office in 1972. He worked as a patrol deputy serving the City of East Palo Alto, and in 1993, Don Horsley was elected Sheriff of San Mateo County.
Sheriff Horsley loved and believed in helping children in our underserved communities. He started our Sheriff’s Activity League and today we have helped thousands of kids in our county. This past September we honored him for his lifetime contributions and commitment to children.
Sheriff Horsley served as sheriff for 14 years, retiring in 2007. After retiring, Sheriff Horsley was elected as Board President for the Sequoia Healthcare District. In 2010, he continued his career in public service by being elected to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sheriff Horsley’s family and friends during this difficult time. His legacy of service and dedication to our community will forever be remembered and cherished. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those who knew and loved him.
