South San Francisco, CA November 6, 2023 SBPD release
On November 5, 2023 at 5:55 a.m., San Bruno Police Communications received a 911 call regarding a male subject that had broken into the residence by forcing entry into a living room window while the occupants were asleep on the 500 block of Poplar Ave, near the intersection of Jenevein Ave.
The occupants encountered the suspect inside of their home and locked themselves inside of a bedroom to the rear of the residence. Officers arrived on scene within 1-minute after being dispatched. With the assistance of South San Francisco Police Department and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, a perimeter was established and the occupants were evacuated from the residence to the safety of responding officers.
Officers attempted to form an open-line of communication with the suspect to negotiate a safe surrender by utilizing Crisis Intervention trained (CIT) officers, as well as Crisis Negotation trained (CNT) officers, but the suspect refused. The North Central Regional SWAT was activated and responded to the scene. At 12:34 p.m., after nearly 7-hours, a 45-year-old male from Oakland was detained without further incident. There were no injuries to the suspect or officers during this incident.
We would like to thank all of the outside law enforcement agencies that responded to assist during this critical incident. We would also like to thank the San Bruno community for your ongoing support!

Good Job, Nice to hear that you were able to secure the people in the house and not shoot the burglar. I like it when Law Enforcement is professional and quick
WELL DONE Officers and CIT team — a wonderful addition to the arsenal of law enforcement to save lives after a long standoff. Awesome.
