Leaders from the 21-member Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation came together for their 30th Summit earlier this month for the week-long event from November 11th – 17th. These countries, including the United States, account for nearly 40% of the global population and half of the world’s trade and the summit was focused on the global economy.

Locally, a lot of the big news focused on San Francisco City streets and how quickly and thoroughly areas were cleansed and sanitized with no-go zones established to showcase the jewel of the West to world leaders. Micro-locally our own South San Francisco Conference Center underwent upgrades worthy of hosting Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and their entourage as he met with the Filipino American community from the Pacific Northwest.

Security throughout the Bay Area was at an all-time high, below are local SWAT members tasked with protecting the Philippine President and his entourage at the SSF Conference Center for the evening event.

Our City of South San Francisco may not have hosted the main event, yet there were a number of undisclosed smaller gatherings in the area. And all those who did attend, while perhaps not stopping in South City, did drive through, and fly overhead, and we appreciate STIG for sharing photos below.

An Air China Boeing 747-800 passenger airliner arrives on Nov. 14th carrying Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (the President) who is also the chairman of the Central Military Commission. There were two identical Air China 747’s that arrived, the same as the U.S. does when Air Force One goes overseas.

A Peruvian government 737 on arrival Nov. 14th. Peru has a very large Asian population thus I imagine that is why they were here for APEC.
