South San Francisco, CA: Everything South City (ESC), South San Francisco’s #1 go-to for local news and views, will be transitioning to a new owner in January as Founder and Editor, Kamala Silva Wolfe, has announced her retirement at the end of the year. Everything South City was established in 2009 as a way for locals to continue to experience that small-town feeling which made South City a unique place to live.
Over the past fourteen years, the City has experienced remarkable transformations, and ESC has been an instrumental force in facilitating the exchange of information and resources for South San Francisco and its neighboring communities. With an unbiased platform, residents have been able to express their opinions respectfully, fostering a civil discourse that is crucial for community development.
“It has been an honor and privilege to have served my community with what has been a great labor of love,” Silva Wolfe said. “I desire to see this incredible archive of resources remain, knowing a new owner will have new visions for growth, yet continuing to allow the space for everyone to share their news and views, unedited.”
Everything South City has cultivated a thriving and interactive online community on popular social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. In addition to that, they provide their audience with a comprehensive weekly digest, showcasing the latest news and opinions published on their website. It’s an effective way of keeping their followers engaged and informed all in one place. In years past, ESC had regularly featured columns in both the San Francisco Examiner and in the Peninsula Progress print editions, giving the South City community an even wider audience.
“Around half of what ESC does is behind the scenes” Silva Wolfe commented. “Connecting people to information and resources, while also at times acting as a sounding board to those often felt unheard in the community, has been key to our success.”
Immediately after the 2010 gas explosion in neighboring San Bruno, ESC was able to provide real-time information on the areas that were damaged, the affected individuals, and the locations of evacuations through social media. This incident highlighted the significance of neighbors having a micro-local platform to share information.
Everything South City also rallied the local community to unite for a prayer vigil when Police Officer Ronnie Chon was viciously attacked in 2016, sustaining life-threatening injuries. More than 500 individuals congregated outside the South San Francisco Police Department to demonstrate their unwavering support for Officer Chon. Dignitaries were also present, offering words of encouragement during this critical time.
These are just a few examples of the newsworthy situations in which ESC has been involved.
“We have been at the forefront of major issues during our tenure, from local flooding and other emergency conditions to governmental actions that impact residents.” Silva Wolfe shared. “We also have amplified the happenings in the lives of our neighbors, sharing imitate stories of successes, of loss, of all things local. Our community is extraordinary and deserving of having a voice for all.”
Currently, Team ESC is actively engaged in discussions with potential owners who have shown enthusiasm for this media resource and their vision moving forward, however, letters of interest are still being accepted.
“We will announce once we have confirmed the new owner and we expect that Team ESC will remain onboard for a short time during the transition.” Silva Wolfe said. “After that, I look forward to penning a few Letters to the Editor myself.”

Kamala
You and the 50K neighbors that stayed in SSF and kept the quality of life here will be missed.
You gave us a sounding board, and refused to be “corporate owned“”even when pressures of local politicians tried and you held them back. I remember when the city tried to tell you how and what to print.
You let us the people have a say without the BS. Transparency is alive and well in EVC.
Dear Your Neighbor,
Thank you for your words, they do mean a lot, and they are appreciated. And thank you for your active participation in sharing your views and giving our neighbors more to think about.
Stay well.
-Kamala
