My name is Patricia Anne Manubay and I am a senior at  El Camino High School. I am also known to be the ASB Vice President and club president of a service club called Students in Action. I am an experienced leader both at school and in my community with 300 hours of community service, but today I am asking for my community’s help.

I’ve been recently selected as one of the 15 finalists for the Lead 360 Project out of thousands of applicants in the United States, representing El Camino High School, South San Francisco, and (I believe) northern California. The Lead 360 Project hosted by Jefferson Awards asks the nation to submit big service ideas/projects to have maximum impact, and my idea was chosen under the category Education and Literacy. I am also represent the Filipino community as I am the only Filipino finalist.

The service project I pitched is called “Dream Box”; it is a box that will be delivered to low-income families that include not only the basic school supplies, but review books, art supplies, a recorder, letters of encouragement, a dream journal and many more. The box will not only help the student prepare for school and academics but help the student explore different possible career paths through playing simple tunes on the recorder, creating art, etc. and also challenge them to make every day goals to help them pursue their dream.

My goal is to help children, despite coming from a low-income or difficult background, believe in themselves that they can succeed in school, be a great leader, and be a great person. I want children to understand that despite other influences, if they fall in love with something they are passionate about that they should continue doing it and pursue it in life.

I am asking help from my community to help me achieve my dream so I can hep others achieve theirs. The only way we can make it happen is if people vote EVERYDAY at http://lead360.jeffersonawards.org/social-voting/. People are able to vote ONCE every day until February 15.  If my story as a lead360 finalist is shared with the community, I will be able to impact and help a lot of people starting in my home town. I am an experienced service leader and I have the skills and resources to make this happen.
