Galaviz’ Cancer Fight

Jeff with his son, wife, and newborn daughter

UPDATE October 4, 2014

After a strong tough battle with cancer Jeff Galaviz passed peacefully in his sleep with his family at his side in the early morning. His family needs our continued support as his wife Melinda continues on with their two little ones. Arrangements are being handled by CrosbyN Gray in Burlingame. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday October 9th at 6:00pm at the Marriotts in San Mateo. Family and friends are encouraged to share their memories at this time. Memorial services will be offered up the following day October 10th at 10:00am  at St Catherines in Burlingame, open to the community.

Donations can still be made to help Melinda with the expenses incurred as well as support for the tomorrows that will see their little ones without their Dad.  Thank you to everyone for your support through out this life changing event. For Paypal donations please include Jeff’s name in the memo. Everything South City will continue to cover the Paypal transaction fees.  Blessings on all.

Jeff’s Obituary from CROSBY N GRAY

Jeff GalavizJeffrey T. Galaviz, gone too soon at the age of 34. Jeffrey, who lived in Redwood City, CA., was the beloved husband to Melinda Galaviz, his life partner of 15 years and wife of almost 10 years, and the loving, doting Daddy to Cruz D. (3 yrs) and Amaya Grace (20 months). He was a loving son to Jeff and Diana Galaviz of San Bruno, CA. Jeffrey was an admired brother(in-law) to Kevin and Colleen of Foster City, Megan of San Carlos, and Keith(Lisa) Fitzpatrick of San Mateo. He was also son-in-law to Keith and Maggie Fitzpatrick who also loved him dearly, as well as many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
In addition to his family, Jeff leaves behind the most loyal of friends, “his boys” as he called them. The bond they shared was unmatched and ever lasting. They will surely miss his smile and brotherhood.
Jeff was funny, kind, gentle, and giving. He loved easily those he knew and those he met, easily fell in love. Jeff was a man who did “everything right” and with a thoughtfulness that was unparalleled. He was adored by his children and deeply loved by his wife. He was respected and loved by all his brothers and sisters of the Oakland and Richmond Police Departments. To his United Stated Marine Corps. brothers, he remained loyal.
Jeff loved music, dancing, and sports of all kinds but specifically football and baseball. Although a critic at times, he was a purely faithful 49er fan and SF Giants fan. He loved to laugh and was a joker till the end. His favorite place on this earth was the beach, it was very much apart of him and still is to this day. Always emotionally strong, Jeff never failed to see the positive in any situation and helped others enlighten their own perspective.
Above all, the one thing Jeff cherished most of all were Melinda, Cruz, and Amaya and the short time he shared with all of them. It is important to Jeff that his children remember him as the loving person he was in life. The family has set up an email address for the kids and asked that people please send photos, videos, stories of Jeffrey to help Melinda carry on his memory for their kids. Please forward these to Galavizkids@gmail.com
If you would like to make any donations they can be made to the paypal account Galavizkids@gmail.com or checks can be sent to:
The Galaviz Family ,355 Shad Ct. Foster City, CA 94404.

A funeral service will be held Friday October 10, 2014 at 10:00am at St. Catherines of Siena on 1310 Bayswater Ave., Burlingame, Ca.
A reception will follow at the Marriot, San Mateo (as listed above).

SUPPORTING ONE OF OUR OWN

Help local Marine veteran and Richmond police officer Jeff Galaviz in his fight against cancer! Jeff was raised in San Bruno and was graduated from Mills High School and went onto Skyline College before joining the Marines. He is now 33 years old, with a wife and two small children. He has to undergo nine weeks of chemo and has just been notified by the City of Richmond that they will no longer be paying his health insurance premiums, which means an additional $2,000 a month cost to Jeff and his family. We are working to cover these costs for the minimum of six months to allow Jeff time for a complete recovery before returning to his job as a police officer in Richmond.

A facebook page has also been set up and we ask that folks please share to get the word out.

UPDATE: July 15, 2013

GALAVIZ CANCER FIGHT

We would like to thank everyone who came out for the fundraising event for the Galaviz family on Sunday July 14th. It was a huge success thanks to all of you. Everything South City was born out of our need to have a stronger community and this event really brought home the impact we can have when we all come together for something bigger than ourselves. To help our neighbors.  This event helped raise $6,000 to assist this young family with the medical premiums they must pay while Jeff is off of work (Police Officer, City of Richmond, CA.)and going through treatment.

We would like to send some shouts out to some of those that made this event possible and in no way is this list complete. To those that are not individually named, we apologize in advance as we work to thank everyone.

First we would like to thank the American Legion Post 409 for opening up their home to us to host this event. To Commander Lonnie Sopko and the post, thank you. To the barkeeps, your donation of the day’s proceeds was truly appreciated. To 2nd Vise Cmdr Joe Munoz and your lovely, energetic wife Camille, you both are amazing and our hearts thank you deeply. Your set up and displays set the tone for a fun and dignified event. From the talking stages to the floor mopping you were there every step of the way.

To the Veterans of Foreign War Post 4103, thank you for handling the 503c accounting for this event, it has made a huge difference. Thank you for your unanimous vote and support.

To the Coastside Military Moms, you are a God send and we thank you for serving and bussing this event. And promoting!

To Firefighters Jeremy Silva, Jack Shaw, Justin Sid and Michael Silva you all rocked the kitchen and the food was excellent – we continue to get rave reviews on your pasta sauce Jeremy!

To our musicians Tom Morgan, Bev Morgan and Pat Nugent, thank you. Thank you for your beautiful music and thank you for your years of service in our military.

To those who donated to our raffle, your gifts have been appreciated so much, by us and by the winners. Today’s economy doesn’t always allow large profits and to have you still step forth means a lot. We hope to support you back through recommendations and to those reading this; *please take note of the business names and frequent them.  ‘Supporting those who support us’ is a common theme with Everything South City.  We also have some wonderful friends that donated some incredible gifts, thank you.

To all those unsung heroes that did the shopping, running around, attend meetings, raffles, doors, set up, served, cleaned up, to the top chefs and bottle washers, thank you.

To all the friends of Everything South City; thank you for getting the word out there and for attending to support one of our own. Donations can still be made on our paypal account.  Please check back regularly for updates. We look forward to a good showing at this upcoming community breakfast at the American Legion Hall. (Saturday July 27th).

Help’s to Jeff’s quick and full healing!
