WHAT IS NATIONAL NIGHT OUT?
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas celebrates on the first Tuesday in October). Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
What a great idea! I hope all the home burglars are noting the date and time you’ll be away from your homes so they know exactly when to hit! Like I said, great idea!

where does Serra Highlands fit into this?

The events in different neighborhoods are due to the efforts of a few residents, in each area, that work to set something up for annual National Night Out. Personally, I’ve been doing this for over 5 years in the Paradise Valley neighborhood and strongly encourage every neighborhood to do likewise. Even at this late date we still have time to gather a few neighbors on Tues evening to meet in front of their homes, it’s a start. The whole idea is to get to know the neighbors that live next to you, across from you – as a way to help create safer neighborhoods and to keep current with what is happening in the area as a whole. In South City, it seems more important nowadays with so much going on, it helps to keep neighbors in the know of the important decisions being made on our behalf.
