South San Francisco, CA August 16, 2018
Students and teachers at Martin Elementary School kicked off the first day of the new school year yesterday with a fun celebration and new gear, courtesy of Office Depot’s new philanthropic program, Start Proud!™.
This year, Office Depot teamed up with the South San Francisco Unified School District to help students, parents, and teachers at Martin Elementary School start the school year off confident, prepared and proud. On Wednesday, August 15, Office Depot associates and partners including Boise Paper, hosted a celebratory Start Proud!™ assembly with guest speakers, including Superintendent Dr. Shawnterra Moore, and donated 1,000 backpacks filled with essentials like notebooks, folders, pencils, and glue to students at the school. Another 1,000 backpacks were provided to the South San Francisco Unified School District to assist with ongoing needs at other Title I schools throughout the year.
Fifth grade teacher Deborah Carlino was recognized by Principal Jonathan Covacha for her extraordinary efforts in the classroom and was surprised with approximately $1,000 worth of premium supplies from Office Depot. At the end of the ceremony, several pallets of school supplies were unveiled for teachers and their classrooms to help them start the year off strong.
Nationwide, Office Depot associates will fill 20,000 backpacks with back-to-school essentials and distribute them to students at Title I schools during ten celebratory assemblies across the country to help them Start Proud!™.
