South City Grad Returns to Set Up Dental Practice; Welcome Kimberly A. Liao, DDS

EDITORS NOTE: We are excited to welcome Kimberly Liao back to South San Francisco as she sets up her new dental practice downtown. The increased cost of living in South City has forced too many of our residents out of the area causing us to appreciate Dr. Liao’s return even more. Feeling at home once again, Dr. Liao is busy reaching out to former neighbors and friends and joining back in the community that has always been home to her.

Why did you decide to open a dental practice in South City?

Having been born and raised in the Bay Area, it has always been a dream to serve my community. As a proud graduate of South San Francisco High School and Westborough Middle School, South City has been a huge part of my life. I feel very privileged to remain a part of the community in a new facet. Opening a dental practice in the heart of downtown makes me feel that much more embedded in South City. I love the bay area and am proud to still call it my home.

Favorite memories from SSFHS or earlier days?

There are definitely so many great memories from SSFHS. I was a part of marching band as a letter girl and winter guard and one of the best things we got to do was go to competitions at other schools. It was so fun representing South City! I remember taking the bus at 6 am on competition days with my friends and fun we would have getting ready to compete. Also, very proud to say we won Winterguard Champs during my time with our very innovative routine! Our band director Mr. Cadiente aka “Cad” was the best! All the students loved him!

Dr Liao enjoys spending time with her husband David and their 2 little ones, Madison and Jackson

When not in the office, what do you enjoy doing?

In my spare time I love to spend it with my husband David and 2 little ones, Madison and Jackson. We love to explore the many sights and events in the Bay Area. I also have a love/hate relationship with running half marathons. I feel very fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world that has so much to see and do!

Tell us about your practice?

We happily treat all members of the family. We provide general dental services for both adults and children. Going to the dentist can be a daunting task, we think the best approach is kindness and patient education. If you understand the value of your teeth and the treatment needed to care for them, you’ll find the positives and necessity of oral health and how it affects your overall health.

What are your goals for your practice in the community?

I truly want to be a dentist who sees my patients through generations. I think that one of the most endearing things about being a dentist is that you can have a patient grow up in your practice and eventually treat their kids, and their kid’s kids. It’s amazing! But, the only way to accomplish that is by being a pillar in the community, by participating in the community, and most importantly, by supporting the local community.
