South San Francisco is home to a large population of coyotes who take up residence in areas that offer open space and easy access to food and water. They have long called Sign Hill, Golf Course, cemeteries and San Bruno Mountain home and we continue to receive some great photos of these wild creatures as neighbors come across them.
Everything South City has published quite bit about these magnificent animals will the hope our neighbors learn the importance of keeping these wild animals – wild. HERE is a link to our past articles so please do read up on what we can do to help keep a good balance in our natural life around us.
We will continue to add photos from neighbors on this article so please come back from time to time to see the latest updates. And remember: coyotes are looking for food and by keeping your small animals, pet food, trash, etc safely put away we can co-exist – especially for those who live closer to open spaces.

Our neighbor PAT from KENT Way shared this via email today:
This morning at 7:15 am, there was a large coyote in the common green of Kent Way and Greendale. It almost got a cat and a dog. Fortunately I could see the cat on my fence was alarmed and I went out to the fence and saw the coyote standing on the lawn. I clapped and yelled and scared the coyote away. I immediately saw a girl open her back gate and let her little dog out. I had to yell at her to get the dog and go back inside. The coyote had JUST passed her yard. My son ran up the common green to scare the coyote away, but it already disappeared. The coyote went on to other adjoining common greens.
Will be putting flyers out on nearby poles.

Tonight around 630pm I was walking my 2 dogs on Miller Ave, right by Sunshine Gardens Elementary, and a coyote came sprinting right at me from Holly Ave. I was spooked. Still daylight. I started waving my arms like a maniac and it turned down Sequioa. Then 2 mins later here it comes again flying up Sequioa right at me. I swear to God, I was digging in for a confrontation. But again it looked at us but kept sprinting down Miller towards ECHS. Be careful folks. Keep your cats indoors..
UPDATE Thur March 21st 12:40PM a neighbor tells Everything South City: ‘Hi! I just saw a coyote in Grand Avenue around 12:40 pm. Anyone else see it? I saw
When I was young growing up in Winston Manor. We used to roam the surrounding hillside. This was the 50’s & 60’s. Never did I see a coyote. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were up in Sign Hill.
Love the pictures on the coyotes in the South City neighborhoods, especially Parkside Middle School. It brought back some good memories.
My dog was bitten by a coyote Saturday 4/28. Luckily he got away with few minor wounds on his back. We live on larch Ave, and our yard is open hill. Just saw the coyote again on the hill today…
