We were really excited to find this new business Hulafrog which is the best resource for ‘local things for kids to do’. With summer right here this is perfect timing to keep the young ones busy and entertained with quality adventures. And what is extra special about this business, the new ‘publisher’ or local owner, lives in Brisbane and has kids so she has intimate knowledge of what kids like.
The business is run online and can be accessed HERE. Go ahead and sign up for the newsletters so you can stay on top of the best kid friendly activities. Never any selling of your information or spam, it’s locals to locals and all about community (which is why ESC LOVES this!) Never hear your kids say again, ‘Geez I’m bored’!

More about our local publisher
We asked Jennifer to tell us more and we are excited to share our interview below:
*So tell us something about your family, age group of the kiddos, favorite things to do with them. Was/is there a favorite age? Favorite activity?
I’m married to Ken Bousquet, an Interactive Art Director for Creativebug.com (a fun crafting website.) We have two kids. Our daughter Cassandra is 10 years old, and our son Sebastian, is 6 years old. They both love reading, dance, soccer, swimming, and anything crafty. Our house is on San Bruno Mountain so a lot of time is spent digging in our backyard like amateur archeologists. Sebastian brought in a cow bone the other night! They also enjoy making potions out of flowers and things they can find outside.
*How long have you lived in Brisbane and before that where was home?
I am a native San Franciscan! I thought I could never live outside the City, but I moved to Brisbane in 2001 when my husband and I bought our first home. It’s a small town with a big heart, and we love it. We have made lots of friends here and are active in the community. During the last 10 years I have served on the boards for the Mothers of Brisbane, Silverspot Cooperative Nursery School and the Friends of the Brisbane Library. Most recently I worked as Publicity & Marketing Director for the 10th Season of “Live at Mission Blue”, a popular classical music series. I also helped successfully fund raise for the renovation of the play structure at the Brisbane Community Park and am proud of how popular it is now!
*If you could create one activity for our local kids, what would it be?
I think anything that gets kids outside or moving is wonderful. Unplug them from the TV or computer, and encourage active exploration of the world outside. I just took my kids to an art exhibit at the dump! So cool to look at art, wonder how it was made, and admire the imagination it takes to create beauty from scavenged garbage. (By the way, that free event was on the Hulafrog event calendar!) 🙂 You can also find lots and lots of parks and playgrounds on Hulafrog.
I am also on the search for a great local capoeira teacher for kids. If any of your readers know of someone wonderful, let me know and I will not only list them on Hulafrog, I will sign my son up. He is passionate about capoeira and sadly his teacher is no longer in our area.
*What is your goal for Hulafrog in our area?
For me, it is about creating community. Although we are located in Brisbane, how great to share events that are literally going on within a 10 or 15 minute drive. We have wonderful events going on in South San Francisco, Daly City, San Bruno, Millbrae, and Burlingame too! If nearby moms and dads just knew about them, how great would that be?
Essentially, Hulafrog a one-stop resource where parents can go to find out things to do and places to go for kids and families in these areas. I hope if you are a mom, dad, grandparent, or caregiver, you’ll check it out and subscribe. It’s free! And if you are not, that you will please share it with someone who is! The site offers a comprehensive directory of local family friendly businesses and a robust event calendar. Think classes, camps, birthday party venues, kid friendly restaurants and more. With free newsletters it’s easy to stay connected with your community, and really share some special experiences with your family.
Hulafrog serves both the parenting and business communities. Kid-friendly businesses get a free basic profile on the site – it’s a great free marketing tool for them too! Hulafrog subscribers can post helpful reviews of businesses. They can also “love” them by clicking on the heart next to the listing, and that will raise the business or event in the rankings.
*Funniest mom experience?
When my son was about 4 years old, he decided to dress up as Cupid for Valentines Day. He wore golden wings and we ran around town scattering red paper hearts – showering love – on anyone we knew. Now he’s 6 and in school – he’s too old for that kind of unself-conscious behavior I guess. But it was a sweet and funny moment, and a memory I will treasure.
