El Camino High and Our Community Say THANK YOU to COACH CARLOS ROMAN
The last game of the last season that our Coach Carlos ‘Los’ Roman coached was bittersweet. The team came through big time scoring a great victory over Capuchino on the Tom Lara field in San Bruno Park. Score: EC 7 Cap 0
As if it couldn’t get better, so many of Colt alumni from the ‘80s, 90’s, 2000’s were on hand to cheer for the man that helped make men out of boys during his 29 seasons of coaching. The announcement of Coach Los’ retirement caused a great deal emotion for many and comments and acknowledgement came flooding in. Here is a sample:
*From John J Janero Los is a class act period!!! Played against him my whole career and treated me as if I was one of his own. Great coach and even better person!!!
*From Lauren Lopiccolo That is ONE GREAT MAN!!
Congrats on the Retirement But SAD for EL Camino’s Baseball program!
And these were the words shared by EC Coach ‘Jake’ Erick Jacobson upon receiving the news. It was an honor that Coach Los asked Coach Jake to suit up and coach 3rd base during this memorable game:
“Our long time Baseball Coach Carlos Roman has decided after 29 GREAT SEASON’S as manager with the Colts is going to retire after the next game.
Los has been such a tremendous role model, father figure, and outstanding example to so many players these last 29 seasons. I was fortunate to not only play for Carlos, but Coach with him as well. He is one of the main reasons why I wanted to become a Teacher and coach.
Carlos would like to invite you to the final game he will coach in at El Camino. E C will play Capuchino at San Bruno Park on Friday, May 11th at 7:00.
Carlos has meant so much too so many of us who have played for him. He taught us the RIGHT way to play this great game of baseball, as well as the right way to conduct ourselves on and off the field. I will miss seeing #16 coaching Baseball at El Camino. I cannot express how much I love and respect Carlos Roman for the 29 wonderful years he has given El Camino baseball. Carlos would love to see all the former players of his this Friday night.
Thank you Carlos for giving us all a gift that we can never thank you enough for. COLT PRIDE”
