Interstate 280 Southbound in San Francisco will be closed from 6th Street to US-101 from Thursday 05/22/2014 9 PM to Tuesday, 05/27/2014 5 AM.
**This closure affects southbound traffic (traffic leaving San Francisco) only! I-280 Northbound (traffic entering San Francisco from US-101) will remain open to traffic as normal
This closure is essential to complete a bridge hinge replacement project on the Southern Freeway Viaduct in San Francisco. The contractor will work 24 hours per day during the 104-hour closure to demolish and reconstruct the bridge hinges.
Bridge hinges connect two portions of a bridge or viaduct, and allow for expansion and contraction on either side. These also allow for independent movement during an earthquake.
This closure will impact traffic leaving downtown San Francisco, including traffic leaving from the AT&T Park. Visitors to San Francisco and the AT&T Park are encouraged to utilize public transportation when possible to avoid experiencing the impact of this closure.
