The deadline to sign up for affordable health insurance starting January 1, 2015 has been extended. Residents now have until midnight on Sunday, December 21 to enroll in an affordable health insurance plan through Covered California.
San Mateo County has enrollment centers located throughout the county and certified enrollment staff are available to help residents in person or on the phone. Staff are also available to help residents renew or change existing Covered California insurance or enroll in or renew Medi-Cal coverage.
Signing up by the new December 21 deadline allows residents to gain health coverage starting January 1, 2015 and helps residents avoid paying a tax penalty.
“Our local enrollment staff can help people find the health insurance plan that works best for them,” said Srija Srinivasan, San Mateo County Health System Director of Strategic Operations. “Financial assistance is available to make health insurance more affordable so residents can stay healthy and have peace of mind knowing that they are covered when they need it most.”
December 21 is the deadline to have access to health insurance starting January 1, 2015. The final deadline to enroll in Covered California health coverage for 2015 is February 15, 2015, which is also the deadline to apply for financial assistance.
