South City residents blast those who dump trash in neighborhoods

South San Francisco resident Charles Rudoni has lived in the Old Town neighborhood all his life, having been born on Commercial Avenue over 85 years ago. For the past 70 years Rudoni has lived on California Avenue and in recent years has seen his property the victim of irresponsible neighbors illegally dumping garbage all around his carport which opens to 7th Lane.

Continued reports to the City have required Rudoni to clear the garbage from his property in order for the City to retrieve the dumped items. “He has to move whatever is on his property into the alley before a pick-up, otherwise the city will say that it could be his garbage and in any case a blight on the city.” His granddaughter Angela reports, “Each time he has to call they say they will make a report but people keep dumping.”

The City will make attempts to find the owners of the garbage by sifting through the debris looking for any possible clues. “The items consist of pieces of wood, cardboard, glass, furniture, toys, tvs, oil, batteries, clothes and canned goods mostly so unfortunately probably not traceable.” Angela explains. “I think Everything South City should also serve as a forum to make public people behaving badly. Next time you see someone doing something wrong, like illegal dumping, take a picture and put them on blast!” She encourages.

While the consideration of cameras is being weighed, Angela realizes the chances of them being tampered with or destroyed are extremely high. In the meanwhile she is hoping that with more public awareness neighbors can police themselves and respect the properties, and those who live there and bring out the best of Old Town.   “My grandpa, and his contributions to our community all his life, is part of the reason South City is the great place that it is and I want to keep it that way!”

The City of South San Francisco has a launched a new online and mobile application called Engage SSF. This app makes it easy to report non-emergency issues from a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer. The City tracks these issues and will provide updates as they are acknowledged and resolved. For the type of issue you are talking about in this article, residents can now use Engage SSF, or go online to http://www.seeclickfix.com and report this.

We live in Winston Manor, my husband born and raised in south city since 1956. He is of European decent, and it wasn’t just the Italians that made south City as it was back then, we had so many events in our track compassionate neighbors up until about 10 years ago when the old timers, passed and their kids sold their homes to different people with different values. The people moving in now, stay locked in their houses and never seen outside. All of the homes years ago were overwhelmed with so much joy during the holidays, now it’s just sad to see that other cultures do not celebrate anything as we did! There are several houses around here, that are just slobs in front of their homes, garbage stacked, it even smells when you go by some of the homes. I hope that this community helps Mr. Charlie to get back what he had, and site those fools around him that are taking advantage of his age and property. Shame on them, they must have come from a ghetto, and think that’s how it should be in our hometown.
