On Saturday, May 23rd at 6:07 a.m., 24-year-old San Francisco resident Rene Ramirez was traveling northbound on Bayshore Boulevard just north of the interstate 101 on-ramp. Ramirez lost control of his 1997 Lexus and drove over the raised center divider into the southbound lanes of Bayshore Boulevard. Ramirez’ vehicle collided head-on with a 2006 Mercedes Benz being driven by an 82-year-old Brisbane resident. The driver of Mercedes Benz sustained major, but not life threatening, injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The investigation revealed that Ramirez was driving his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was impaired at the time of the collision. Ramirez was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City. Based on the injuries sustained as a result of the collision, Ramirez faces felony DUI charges.
