On 06-06-15 at about 2221 hours, an alert citizen called 9-1-1 to report a possible drunk driver traveling on Chestnut Avenue at El Camino Real in South San Francisco. The reporting party advised that the driver was swerving all over the road. As officers responded to the area, the citizen kept following the driver. Before officers could arrive on scene, the citizen witnessed the driver collide into an unoccupied and parked vehicle on Arroyo Drive at Indio Drive. After the collision, the citizen took the driver’s keys and waited on scene until police arrived a short time later.
Officers conducted a traffic collision and impairment investigation with the driver. The driver, Maria Cuza of San Francisco, was found to be under the influence of alcohol with blood-alcohol level almost three times the legal limit. Cuza was arrested for 23152(a) VC (driving under the influence of alcohol) and 23152(b) VC (driving with a BAC of over .08%) – booking status First Chance.
The South San Francisco Police Department commends the citizen that called to report this dangerous drunk driver. Anyone witnessing any suspected drunk or impaired driver is strongly encouraged to call 9-1-1 and report the information to the police.
