South San Francisco, CA September 11, 2015 Submitted by John Horgan, SSFUSD
Alan Perez, student body president at South San Francisco High School, is the new 2015 student member of the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees. As such, he can participate in Board discussions but he cannot cast an official vote. His first Board meeting was on Sept. 10.
Alan you have admirers on the other coast too. I’ll tell you one thing. Anyone who spells their name with one ‘L’ (my daughter’s name is Alison) has to be thoughtful and considerate. Why waste a good letter when one will do. Think of all the trees you will save over your lifetime by not taking the paper space for that extra ‘L’.
When we were in and about South San Francisco, conditions there were iffy with regard to good government and the right of the public to know what is going on. I know you will have limited ability to impact those type of conditions overall, but so what. While you are learning about the school board, take on SSF government too. Heck nose around Daly City and San Bruno while you are at it. Your mom says you have energy to spare. (I’ve seen your schedule. Looking at it makes me tired.)
When you graduate next year, I hope you consider some East Coast colleges. Columbia, (ten blocks from here) or any Ivy League school would love to have you although I am not sure they are good enough for you. Tell your mom I will keep an eye on you if you move east. (I really won’t, but she doesn’t have to know that.)
Best wishes for your senior year. Keep those trustees squared away. Your East Coast contingent is rooting for you. (It’s a big contingent. There are 19 million of us in the metro area, and every one is sending good vibes.)
All the best,
Ray & Bonnie von Dohren
Great job Alan. Your family is very proud of you. Keep up the good work.
Just to clarify, Alan is the student Trustee for the fall semester. ECHS ASB President, Tiana Nalerio, will serve as the spring student Trustee.
On behalf of everyone at Westborough, we are very proud of you Alan. I know you will do a great job on the Board representing SSFHS. I’ll see you at one or two of them this year.
