South San Francisco, CA November 19, 2015 Lisa DeMattei, SSF Kawanis
Since 1981, the South San Francisco Young Men’s Institute (YMI), in association with the Kiwanis Club of SSF, SSF Host Lions Club, South San Francisco Scavenger Company and various community organizations and volunteers have participated in the annual Louis P. Guaraldi Food Basket Program to benefit local families during the holidays. Last year, more than 3,000 pounds of food was donated to provide food boxes with over a week’s worth of food including meat, eggs, milk, fresh produce and dry & canned goods to over 350 local families.
On Saturday, December 12th beginning at 8:00 am, volunteers will assemble and deliver holiday food baskets at South San Francisco Terrabay Fire Station 65 located at 1151 South San Francisco Drive in SSF. We plan to distribute over 300 boxes this season. Please consider a financial contribution to boost our buying power or donate food items such as hams, turkeys, cereal, nutritious nonperishable food and/or canned items to help supplement holiday meals for over 300 local families in need. Along with the food baskets, volunteers will also be delivering toys generously donated by the community and the US Marine Corps.
You can drop off donations of nonperishable food items at South San Francisco Scavenger Co., 500 East Jamie Court (off East Grand Avenue and Haskins Way) or Garden Chapel, 885 El Camino Real, both in South San Francisco through December 11th, Monday – Friday, during business hours. For questions or to make donations of fresh food or cases of goods, please contact Al Banfield at chapel885@sbcglobal.net. Mail your tax deductible financial contributions to YMI, Holiday Food Program, P.O. Box 1161, South San Francisco, CA 94083-1161. If you’d like to volunteer to help assemble & deliver food boxes on 12/12, please email Lisa at lisa.SSFKiwanis@gmail.com.
