Martin School Family Stories/Latino Literacy
Miss Summers and Mrs. Delia have done an amazing job tailoring the program to the Martin school community and intertwine their school wide programs such as 100 Book Challenge and Fountas and Pinnell reading levels to empower families to become more involved with their child’s education as well as to engage with their child’s teacher to further support their child’s academic success. Miss Summers and Mrs. Delia have also provided our families with strategic strategies related to the California Common Core State Standards. This program is a wonderful way for our school to engage our families and build a strong positive rapport with our families so that we can further our commitment to our students’ success. We have families who request to be part of the program year after year because every year Miss Summers and Mrs. Delia make the program even more engaging and enriching for our families.
Spruce College Spirit Day and VIP table for Positive Behavior Intervention Support
Spruce recently had their College Spirit Day! Prior to this day our teachers took time to speak to their students and did activities about their college life and the opportunities that come from obtaining a degree. So today students will wear colors that represent the college that their teachers attended. Teachers engaged students in activities and discussions about the importance of college, what college did for them, the types of careers you can have when you attend college, etc. For some of our kiddos we are the only college role models that they have. The principal, Mr. Castillo, also encouraged teachers to follow up with a writing prompt/task or an art project of some sort. Some teachers last year browsed their college website and showed them pictures, a map of the buildings, dorm life, sports on campus, etc.
They also had their VIP table to support their implementation of PBIS. The site dressed up a table and teachers selected students who have been demonstrating the school wide rules of (Spruce Cougars) are Responsible, Respectful, Safe, and Kind. In addition they also had the Character Traits Ceremony focus and this month they focused on good sportsmanship. Attached you will find some pictures
