Ukulele has really taken hold in recent years especially with some great musicians like Ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro and those who walk in his footsteps.  Simabukuro is quoted as saying in the Monterey Hearld last November

“I’m most fascinated by my travels to all these places to find these large uke communities,” he said in a phone interview from a tour stop in Pennsylvania. “Especially the last three or four years, I’ve seen the interest grow tremendously. Then of course, you have people like the band Train, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s beautiful recording of ‘Over The Rainbow,’ Eddie Vedder recording a uke record, Paul McCartney played the uke on his tour, Taylor Swift played the uke, Grace VanderWaal winning ‘America’s Got Talent’ with the uke. I just feel like the last ten years, the uke has been riding this huge wave of interest.”
