South San Francisco, CA March 20, 2017 Submitted by Teresa Montgomery, SSF Scavengers
The South San Francisco Scavenger Company will be hosting Earth Day APRIL 22nd activities that are FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC of all ages!
Start the day with an educational composting workshop:
The Composting Workshop is sponsored by the San Mateo County Office of Sustainability. Participants in the Workshop will learn how easy and fun it is to recycle fruit and vegetable scraps, leaves, and plant cuttings into compost. They will also learn that compost provides valuable nutrients to garden soil, helps retain moisture which saves water, prevents erosion, loosens clay and compacted soils, and suppresses weeds.
Ever wonder what happens to all the garbage we generate? This is the perfect behind the scenes tour that will answer all your questions:
The Facility Tour includes a walk on the Bay Trail, visit to the 4R Learning Center, and a stop at the anaerobic digesters. Those interested should arrive a few minutes early and wear close-toe shoes.
Please note: A reservation is required to attend the Workshop and/or Tour. To reserve space, please call 650.589.4020 x105 or email [email protected] by no later than noon on April 20th. Provide your name and number in your party, and state if you will be attending the workshop, the tour, or both.
