MISSION STATEMENT
The Veterans Commission promotes programs and policies that address the unmet needs of veterans in San Mateo County.
MEETINGS & LOCATION
The Commission shall establish the time and place of its regular meetings, shall meet at least 6 times a year, unless otherwise determined by a majority vote of the Commission.

MEMBERSHIP
The Commission shall consist of eleven voting members who shall be residents of the County of San Mateo, work in the County, or provide services, which target and benefit veterans residing in the County.
TERMS
For the initial appointment of members, six members shall be appointed to serve three year terms and five members shall be appointed to serve two year terms. Thereafter, each of the terms shall be three year terms. Upon the conclusion of a term, a member may be reappointed subject to a maximum of four full three year terms.
DUTIES
To advise and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors; to develop and implement an annual work plan; to provide a public forum for input from the veterans community to identify unmet needs; to work with existing veterans’ advocacy and service organizations to help coordinate systems of care and benefits; to act as an advocate for veterans, taking positions pertaining to federal, state and local policies, programs, procedures and any legislation affecting veterans and their families; and to fulfill other duties and engage in other activities as directed by the Board of Supervisors.
