On Thursday, June 22nd 2017 at approximately I I :09 PM, 21-year-old Merced resident Francisco Avelar was driving his vehicle on West Orange Avenue at El Camino Real in South San Francisco, when he collided with a pedestrian crossing the roadway. Avelar fled the area without stopping the vehicle to render aid to the victim or call the police. Avelar was located a short time later by South San Francisco Police Officers. The victim of the collision was transported to a local trauma center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Avelar was placed under arrest for felony hit and run and driving on a suspended license. Avelar was transported and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on felony charges.
