“Tom Petty was an iconic guitarist and his rock band was pivotal in the music scene in the 1970s and 1980s” said Dana Stoehr, chief executive officer of the San Mateo County Event Center and Fair. “Petty & The Heartshakers recreates the Heartbreakers’ memorable music through an outstanding tribute that will make you want to sing and dance.”
Hearing how he resembles Tom Petty, and after being pushed by his peers in 2016 to start a tribute band, Dan Grennes watched the “Runnin’ Down a Dream” documentary. He began to strongly identify with Tom Petty the artist, developing a deep regard for him and his work. “The day we all lost Tom was a very tragic one,” said Grennes. Grennes now seeks to keep Petty’s music alive and respectfully channels Petty in his own personal way. Grennes is lead vocals and guitar and played with Melissa Etheridge, Billie Joe Armstrong and Jim Breuer. The sought-after Petty tribute band also includes Les Warner on bass; Chris Cicchino on lead guitar; Andy Gerold on drums; Brenda Fitz on keyboards; and Sara D’Arce on background vocals.
In addition to Petty & The Heartshakers, the 2019 concert series announced to date includes Morris Day & The Time (June 8) and Queen Nation – A Tribute to the Music of Queen (June 10).
