Sears Tanforan to Close by February 2020, Going out of business sales to begin December 2nd

South San Francisco, CA   November 8, 2019 

A South San Francisco neighbor, and former employee of Sears, informed us that Sears will be closing, validating the rumors we’ve been hearing the past year or so, after they filed for bankruptcy. Reports show our local Sears will be one of the 96 stores to close (51 Sears, 45 Kmarts) by February 2020. Going out of business sales will begin December 2nd, in time for us to cash in on some great sales, although disappointing to see yet another long time retailer take their leave. We hope the employees are well positioned to find other opportunities.

Sears, Tanforan, was one of the original retailers in that shopping mall when it first opened in 1971 and remained an anchor store along with JC Penny’s.
