South San Francisco, CA March 11,2020 Submitted by Heather Gloe, Genentech Corporate RelationsGen
Genentech takes the health and safety of our employees, their families and our local communities very seriously, and we are actively responding to the COVID-19 public health issue.
Two individuals who were on Genentech’s South San Francisco, CA campus on March 2 have since tested positive for COVID-19. A small number of personnel identified to have had close contact with the diagnosed individuals have been notified and advised to work from home for a 14-day period. In addition, we have informed the San Mateo County Health Department, all Genentech employees, and those who regularly work on our South San Francisco campus. We are confident that appropriate measures have and are being taken to support the persons affected and to minimize the risk to others.
Genentech has a COVID-19 task force dedicated to preparing for and protecting against the transmission of COVID-19 on our campuses and in the local community, while ensuring the critical work required to bring our medicines to those who need them continues. The measures we have put in place include:
-
Encouraging those who are able to work from home to do so.
-
Implementing social distancing and additional cleanings throughout our campuses to help protect those who continue to work on site in service of our patients.
-
Restricting all global and domestic company air travel only to trips that support business continuity.
-
Cancelling/postponing all large Genentech meetings and events.
-
Suspending visitor access to our campuses and conducting virtual meetings.
-
Engaging our on-site medical teams, who are trained and ready to respond 24/7.
-
Working closely with appropriate health authorities and fully complying with all applicable regulations and protocols.
We will continue to closely monitor, evaluate and respond to the COVID-19 situation as it evolves.
