SSFUSD Schools Experience ZOOM Bombed

South San Francisco, CA  August 28, 2020 by Angelique Presidente, ESC

SSFUSD Parents,
We have received messages so far from ECHS and Sunshine Gardens regarding an incident that occurred at one of our middle schools. Have you been notified by your child’s school? If so, which ones. After a search, there hasn’t been anything from the district. See message from ECHS below:

“Good afternoon ECHS Parents.
We recently learned that an individual “Zoom bombed” a live class at one of our middle schools by posing as a student to gain entrance to the class.
After being admitted, the individual presented inappropriate images for several seconds, before being removed by the teacher. SSFUSD takes occurrences like these very seriously.
We wanted to notify you of this situation and let you know that the district has investigated this situation and has already taken steps to remind and provide additional training for our educators on the different ways they can enhance security measures even more, during their live sessions. In this situation, the teacher was implementing appropriate safety precautions, responded swiftly to the situation, and notified her students’ parents in a timely manner. Unfortunately, this is something that could happen at any time to any of our educators.
Therefore, we wanted to proactively take the opportunity to remind you of the need to safeguard the login and password information of all your children and that we will continue to put safeguards in place to minimize virtual intrusions. We need help from our students and families; please do not share Zoom passwords and ID information with other students that are not in their assigned classes.
Thank you very much for your continuing support!
Daniel Lunt, ECHS Principal”

Mr. Reichle
We have heard of many other organizations and schools have also been ZOOM bombed. This message was from the San Leandro District as shared on our FB page by Patty Gomez.
