SSFPD Media Alert: Pursuit of Vehicle Theft Suspect

South San Francisco, CA  November 21, 2020 Submitted by SSFPD

On Friday night, at approximately 9pm, Oakland resident Eliyas Bayu (6-6-1995) stole a vehicle from a parking lot on the 400 block of Collins Road in the Town of Colma. The owner of the vehicle witnessed the theft and followed the suspect into South San Francisco, while he called 911 to report the incident.

South San Francisco officers located the suspect and vehicle on El Camino Real, where they attempted to stop it. The suspect failed to yield and led the officers on a high speed pursuit through San Bruno and South San Francisco before losing control of the vehicle on the 1800 block of Hillside Boulevard in the Town of Colma.

The suspect vehicle collided into an occupied parked vehicle and through the fence of a cemetery.  The suspect was safely taken into custody by officers after the collision.  The occupants of the parked vehicle were treated and released from a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigation revealed the suspect had an $100,000.00 outstanding arrest warrant for carjacking in Alameda County. The suspected was placed under arrest for vehicle theft and felony evading, in addition to the outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
