Updated Workplace Mask Guidelines June 20, 2021

South San Francisco, CA  June 20, 2021 Submitted by Brisbane Chamber of Commerce

On Thursday, Cal/OSHA revised their mask guidelines for the workplace (effective immediately), allowing vaccinated individuals to remove masks while at work. In addition, social distancing requirements have also been lifted unless a particular workplace experiences a COVID-19 outbreak.
The updates to the guidelines include:
  • Vaccinated employees are not required to wear masks while indoors, except for the places where California still requires masks to be worn by all people (such as public transit)
  • Unvaccinated employees must still wear face masks in indoor settings
  • Face masks are not required for vaccinated and unvaccinated workers while outdoors

Employers are required to document which employees are vaccinated but are not required to keep copies of vaccination records. Rather, employees can self-attest that they are vaccinated.
Those who are unvaccinated can request their employer provide an approved face covering like an N95 mask rather than being forced to socially distance. Businesses are also free to implement stricter masking guidelines.
If an employee comes in contact with someone who has contracted COVID-19, they will no longer be required to miss work to quarantine. If an employee exhibits COVID-19 symptoms, employers must make COVID-19 testing available
