Letter to Editor: Residents Pay for New SSFPD Facility but not Included in Ribbon Cutting Event – WHY?

South San Francisco, CA  December 11, 2021 by  South San Francisco neighbor

Police Dept. Ribbon Cutting yesterday

First I would like to remain anonymous.
Saw in Facebook today that South City Police Department posted pictures for a “ribbon cutting” of the new Police Department.  Nothing was put on the “online calendar” on line that South City website has.  It also appears that no citizens/residents of South City were not notified or invited to also attend.
Did “they” forget that the CITIZENS of South City is paying for this building for the next 30 years!
It would be nice to get a comment from them.
Thank you.

Yes you paid or are paying for a new police dispatch center, and you’re not alone. The City skipped over lots of people including like you, the ones who will be paying for it at least until the half cent sales tax expires in about 25 years.
Is it any wonder the projected resident growth of 10K is woefully short about 9K residents by the 2020 census?
Rising sewer fees, developer fees, trash fees, this fee, that fee, cost of living fee. SSF has become among the most inhospitable city to new residents. This is why you don’t see the high lease vacancies and the million dollar condos on Linden Ave. not flying off the shelf.

I don’t know who signed off the design of the new police department, but it certainly is stark with gray and white and a huge sign saying “Police” – looks more like a prison. Ribbon cutting – hmmmm. Public is never told much ahead.

I think it looks great. A long needed addition to the city. However not including an invitation to the residents for the dedication is DISGUSTING

Great question. I too was wondering the same thing when I first heard of it watching KGO TV news at 6pm. The gave a short tour of the inside of the building.

They played us again. No invite? They pushed a thirty year sales tax increase on residents when most municipalities don’t get greedy by asking for more than five years or boldly asking for ten. Seems that passing a thirty year tax in an “off year election” is a lot like a SSF police station ribbon cutting. They want a low turnout.
