Temporary El Camino Real Demonstration Project – Parking removed -edit

South San Francisco, CA  July 20, 2023 Press Release

EDIT MADE (parking on ECR will be removed, not traffic lanes)

To ESC via email:

Hello,

Thank you so much for covering the temporary pilot project on El Camino Real in South San Francisco.
We’re excited to partner with the city on this project and look forward to assisting them with community engagement through the duration of the pilot. Please feel free to reach out to us for any background on the project.
To that end, your article headline falsely claims there will be a “car lane reduction” on ECR, but the pilot project does not eliminate a lane or reduce any of the vehicle travel lanes. This would require a separate permit from CALTRANS that the city did not apply for.
We would appreciate a correction and an update to the story. Thank you for your consideration.

Best,

Anthony Montes | he/him/his

It was sure nice to get notices in the mail from SSF after they completed the work. Now we’re waiting for the first car accident, since the buses no longer pull to the curb backing the traffic into the intersections. Cars trying to go around are now cutting off cars in the middle lane coming down the hill at 50 mph trying to make the light.

The City with a few bike enthusiasts on the council and planning comish are pushing harebrained solutions into the future of pedestrian/motorists mobility. The black hole in their thinking is evident with new vernacular “sharrows”keeping cars off bike lanes. The amount of cars on the road isn’t the problem and the solution could work but only if 70% of the workforce stayed home. Their solution isn’t even even logical.
I don’t see massive use of bikes enought to make a huge difference other than increased dead injured people- becoming reality anytime soon. Driverless cars will win out before biking and if you value your life, the biker solution’s time will run out over keeping 4 wheel cars the necessity not a silly solution to appease a few Gen Xers. I’ll keep my common sense, before I hop on a bike to save the earth
